True 1-inch slate provides superior ball roll consistency and eliminates dead spots. Thinner slate can develop inconsistencies over time and doesn't offer the same professional playing experience.
While possible, professional installation is strongly recommended. Slate sections are extremely heavy (150+ lbs each) and require precise leveling for optimal play. Most customers choose professional setup.
With proper care, the professional-grade cloth should last 3-5 years of regular home use. Avoid sharp objects on the surface and brush regularly to maintain optimal playing conditions.
